Application Requirements & Procedure

 "Elaine Davis-Nickens "  Scholarship Application is now Closed!

   

  For 2023, two $500.00 scholarships will be awarded.

  A GOOGLE or GMAIL account is required to submit an online application. 

General eligibility requirements for submitting your application and supporting documents

 

Applicants for NHBW, Inc. "Elaine Davis-Nickens" Atlanta-Metro Scholarship must:

 

STEP 1:  Review Scholarship Description

Review the Scholarship Description and submit a full application packet

 

STEP 2:  Eligibility Requirements

  • Graduating High School Senior (Must be in the Metro Atlanta Area).

  • Proof of acceptance at an accredited 2-4 year institution for the Fall 2023 Semester

  • Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.75 or better, documented by a current High School transcript

  • Demonstrate mastery of written communication skills in a 300 to 500- word essay.

 

STEP 3:  Application Submission

Complete the Online Application, then email supporting documents 

 

STEP 4:  Letters of Recommendation

TO BE CONSIDERED, ALL APPLICATIONS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY:

  • Current letter of recommendation written by a school and a community representative. (Please ask the writer to be specific. Letters from family members are not acceptable.)

 

STEP 5:  Official Transcript

Have the High School you are attending submit an official seven (7) semester transcript to the address below.

Secure an Official Transcript. Transcripts must be signed and sealed by the school and submitted by mail in the packet of documents that support your application.

 

STEP 6:  Essay 

Applicants must submit a Two-page Essay – Double spaced, typed, using 12 font (New Times)

  • The essay must contain 300 to 500 words

  • The essay must be typed and double spaced

  • The essay must be written on the following topic

 

Share your educational goals and professional aspirations, and how this award can help you to achieve these goals.  The essay should tell the NHBW your story on how you will contribute or impact others with your educational and career goals.  Why do you feel you are a good candidate for this award? 

Step 7: FULL APPLICATION PACKET
Your full scholarship application packet should include the following:
● Completed application (submitted online)|

● Supporting documents (EMAIL your Supporting Documents to scholarship@nhbwatl.org)


o Seven (7) semester High School Official Transcript
o Proof of acceptance at an accredited 2-4 year institution
o 2 Letters of Recommendation written by a school and a community representative

o Essay

o A recent photo with full name listed on back 

SELECTION PROCESS
Finalists may be required to make an oral presentation before the Local Chapter. The Winner will be notified by​ EMAIL and invited to attend the awards ceremony possibly in May.
